a little bit about us!
Our mission is to build community through local food. We seek to foster a sense of connectedness among the individuals, families, organizations, and businesses of central Arkansas by offering a focal point for sustainable activities in the area.
At The Root Cafe, we host a range of activities from workshops, classes, and guest speakers to music and other special events. We host multiple annual and recurring events such as a hot pepper-eating contest with Dunbar Community Garden, a beard-growing contest with the Arkansas Times, a pie bake-off and recipe swap with CALS and the AR Litererary Festival, and our Movies in the Parking Lot event with Arkansas Cinema Society! We are also proud to be official Partners in Education with our neighborhood public elementary school, Washington Elementary School, and enjoy partnering and working with other local organizations like Arkansas Public Policy Panel, whose focus is social and economic justice for the people of Arkansas.
We believe that sourcing locally not only supports our state's economy but also makes us better stewards of the environment because of the shorter distance the ingredients have to travel to get to the plate. We firmly believe that it's because we source locally that our food is so delicious. It makes us feel great that The Root supports local Arkansas farmers and producers that we know and love and that we get to showcase those famers who grow this delicious food! Through food, education, and community, The Root Cafe is striving to make Little Rock a better place to live by helping to create a more just, sustainable, and delicious food system for central Arkansas.
Are you a small Arkansas farmer or producer and interested in working with us? OR do you have a great idea and are interested in working with us on a community project or event? Please let us know!
